A caption on the front of the photograph (not shown) states, "May 2--Robert Moses (Lefty) Grove, one time major league baseball great, shakes hands with Mayor Virgil Alexander of Lonaconing as they wound up a campaign in which Alexander was reelected mayor and Grove was elected to his first political office as town councilman. 1955"
