DescriptionA black-and-white posed photograph of Bob Feller during an army examination. Feller, shown from the waist up, is seated facing the camera with his shirtsleeves rolled up. Feller's left arm rests in his lap, but his right arm is raised, held by the doctor who is in the process of performing the examination. Feller smiles and looks straight ahead into the distance while the doctor, wearing a white lab coat, looks directly at Feller. Pasted on the reverse (not shown), typed in black ink, is a clipping of the original newspaper caption that reads, "Army Finds Bob Feller Fit for Service Dr. Michael C. Geraci examining the Indian's pitcher for a draft board in Cleveland yesterday. The physicians found he was physically perfect. Officials said it was unlikely he would be called for duty before the end of the baseball season." Also stamped on the reverse (not shown), in purple ink, is the date "AUG 6 1941," the probable publication date of this image. Due to the stiff, posed nature of the image and the provided caption it is possible that this photo was created specifically to accompany this press release.
