DescriptionA black-and-white sequence photograph of Sandy Koufax captured on the pitcher's mound as he winds up and releases his pitch. In the first sequence Koufax is adjusting the brim of his baseball cap as he looks down the field. In the second sequence Koufax is slightly bent down with his left hand behind his back and his baseball glove against his right knee as he looks at the batter in the distance. In the third sequence Koufax is looking over his right shoulder with his right leg off the ground and his left arm beginning his wind up. In the fourth and final sequence Koufax has a strained expression on his face as he releases his pitch and his feet are wide apart on the pitcher's mound. Koufax is dressed in the Los Angeles Dodgers home uniform. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "squints at Felix Mantilla, stretches and whips ball toward plate- and a no-hitter goes into books as Mets' last hope in Saturday night game grounds into a force play." Based on Koufax's uniform and his time with the Dodgers this photograph was taken in approximately 1962.
