DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Lefty Grove captured with a large smile on his face as he holds up the trophy he received for being chosen as the Most Valuable Player. Grove is dressed in a Philadelphia Athletics home uniform. Numerous fans are visible in the Shibe Park stands in the background. A newspaper caption affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Lefty Grove, ace of Mack's hurling...Rated with best of all time. Won 31 games,...during season. He's showing you the trophy...given him after he was voted most valuable player in Quakertown." Another newspaper caption is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "Lefty Grove 1925-1941 Won 300 Games." Based on Grove's uniform and his time with the Athletics, this photograph was probably taken in 1931.
