DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Connie Mack captured on his 93rd birthday seated in a chair beside a Christmas tree and an end table that has a birthday cake, baseball and baseball bat on it. The birthday cake features an elephant that wears a Philadelphia Athletics "A's" banners. He is dressed in a suit and has a smile on his face. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) (not shown)and states, "Birthday Celebration Connie Mack, former owner and manager of the Philadelphia Athletics, American League Baseball Club now in Kansas City, raises his hands to wish photographers, 'Merry Christmas' as he celebrates his 93rd birthday anniversary a day early Dec. 22 in Philadelphia. Mack, long called 'the grand old man of baseball,' will spend the Christmas Holiday at the home of a son, Roy, with whom he has been residing since he left a hospital following a fall in which he broke his hip Oct. 1." Based on the caption this photograph was taken on December 22, 1955.
