DescriptionA black-and-white photograph, from left to right, of Chubby Dean, Lou Finney, Connie Mack, Bill Cissell and Skeeter Newsome wearing large sombreros. Mack is dressed in a suit and wears a sarape, a long blanket-like shawl worn in Mexico. Whereas Dean, Finner, Cissell and Newsome are dressed in Philadelphia Athletics uniforms and hold baseball bats over their shoulders. Mack holds up a baseball and the players look in his direction. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) (not shown) and states, "No Fears of Sunburn Mexico March 4-Outfitted with wide-brimmed sombreros against beaming Mexican sunshine, Connie Mack (center), manager of the Philadelphia Athletics, and four of his players, (left to right) 'Chubby' Dean, Lou Finney, Bill Cissell and Lamar Newsome are shown talking things over at their training camp here. 3/4/37." Based on the newspaper clipping and the players respective time with the Athletics this photograph was taken on March 4, 1937.
