Fenway Park Grounds Crew hose nozzle

Date2011
DescriptionGold metal hose nozzle with a flared end. The attachment end is hollow to connect to a hose made of black plastic with three thin gold rings around the outside and rotates inside the center gold section. The gold section has a sticker noting the manufacturer, John Deere, the model (HotShot Plus) and company contact information. There is a wedge image running along the length of the sticker to denote that twisting the attachment piece with change the water flow from low to high. Above the gold section is a conical rubber piece to widen the spray. The rubber piece wraps around the golde end of the nozzle, and in the center of the gold is a silver and black plastic piece with a hole in the center where a screw is visible. It is not flush with the gold body of the nozzle, allowing water to come out around the central piece.
Bio/Historical NoteAmong the tools in a groundskeeper's arsenal is the adjustable hose nozzle, used to wet the infield dirt before games. David Mellor, a PTSD survivor who became the Senior Director of Grounds at Boston's Fenway Park in 2001, wielded this nozzle during the 2011 season.
