Vene invited Joe Donnelly, Long Island Newsday sportswriter, and a team of American sportwriters, to Venezuela to play games against a team he managed there, "Guaicaipuro de Oro." Three games were played in Venezuela, with the first two games being won by Guaicaipuro, 8-5 and 6-3 respectively, and the third game won by the American team, 4-3.
