"Bill McKinley began his umpiring career in the North Carolina State League in 1940. He then moved to the Michigan State League (1941) and American Association (1942, 1946). McKinley missed the 1943-1945 seasons due to military service. He was then an American League umpire from August 1946 to 1965, after which he retired, having reached the mandatory retirement age of 55. He was an umpire in four World Series and three All-Star Games. After his retirement, he served as umpire-in-chief of the ephemeral Global League." --baseball-reference.com/bullpen.
