The caption (not shown) reads "Babe Ruth pictured with his wife on their arrival in New York, September 7, where the home run king will consult physicians. Ruth's hurried return from Detroit was caused by what he took for appendicitis pains. The fact that he was able to leave the train without assistance raised hopes among his friends that the big fellow's condition was not yet cause for a general alarm, as the start of the World Series is only three weeks away."
