DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Walter Johnson (top row, fifth from the left) and his classmates at Fullerton High School in Southern California. The image caption on the reverse (not shown) reads, "When Walter Johnson Went to School: This picture was taken 1903 soon after Walter Johnson's parents moved from Kansas to California. The new Johnson home was at Olinda but the nearest high school was Fullerton, both towns being in the heart of the oil belt. The future Speed King is seen in the top row of the photograph, fifth from the left. Starting as a catcher with the high school team at Fullerton, his speed soon turned his efforts to pitching and immediately he became the 'boy wonder' of Southern California."
