DescriptionPlaster figurine depicting a baseball player wearing a white uniform with an "N" on the proper left chest and "4" on the back, a black cap, black shoes and a bat in the proper right hand. Figure is leaning forward slightly and has his proper left hand on his opposite arm as if rolling up his sleeve. Facial features are exaggerated and proper left eye is squinted closed. There is a white sticker on the bottom of one foot, "Original Humor By / Rittgers / Chicago." "LR 1939" is stamped into the lower rear portion of the left pants leg.
Bio/Historical NoteHand-painted Lafayette Rittgers batter figurine, one of a set of three produced in 1939. The other figurines in the set are an umpire and another player.
