Al Downing and Elston Howard photograph

Date1966
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Al Downing, left, and Elston Howard of the New York Yankees working out in 1966. Both are wearing sweat suits and sneakers, while Howard also appears to have a shirt made of plastic on as well. A caption on the back of the photo (not shown) reads, "When the Yankee battery of Al Downing, pitching, and Elston Howard, catching, New York fans settled back in confidence. That was in 1964, though when Al led the league with 217 strikeouts while winning 13 and losing 8; and Howard batted .313 while driving 84 runs. Last year they both slipped and so did the Yankees. Hard at work for '66, Downing (L) and Howard (R) work out at a local YMHA."
