Black Lives Matter Movement fabric

Date2020 July 24
DescriptionLong, rectangular piece of plain black fabric.
Bio/Historical NoteLength of fabric used by members of both the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins prior to the Opening Day game on July 24, 2020 in recognition of the Black Lives Matter movement. This piece was cut from the larger length of fabric which was held by players before the game at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies' Andrew McCutchen conceptualized the use of the fabric across MLB. Ideally, McCutchen said, the best way to show unity would have been for the players to lock arms as a show of unity. However, players are required to keep a minimum of six feet of distance because of the protocols relating to the coronavirus pandemic.
