DescriptionSterling silver bowl with a decorative perimeter edge and five round fluted feet on the bottom. Bowl has ten uniform bulges around the entire perimeter with engraved lettering on all but three. Four of the bulges list the names of infielders, catchers, pitchers and outfielders. The remaining bulges read "N.Y. Nat. L. / The Giants / Champions Of The / World / 1888-1889," "Presented / to / John B. Day / By / A few of his many friends / Oct. 31st 1889," and "John B. Day / Pres. / James Mutrie / Man'g." The bottom has a manufacturer stamp in the center.
Bio/Historical NoteSilver bowl presented to John Day, President of the New York Giants for winning the World Championship 1889. The Giants moved into their renovated Polo Grounds in July 1889. On October 18, 1889 the first game of the World Series began with the National League New York Giants hosting the American Association Brooklyn Trolley-Dodgers. The Series was a nine-game contest with the Giants taking their first World Series Championship on October 29, 1889.
